Black History Month Watchlist 2026

✮⋆ Kung Fu, NYC, & Lisa Bonet

Paris Is Burning (1990)

This list was supposed to go up March 1st, but...life! Grateful to spend another February with Oscar and celebrate Black art together.

Stand-outs

THE LAST DRAGON

So very, very 80s with one of the most memorable antagonists I've ever seen: Sho'Nuff! Over-the-top kung fu, costuming, and music make this a camp classic.

CROOKLYN

Cinematic portraiture from Spike Lee that acts both as time capsule and love letter. There's just something so intimate about a series of vignettes strung together...

PARIS IS BURNING

A fabulous and fiercely tragic account of 1980s drag/ball culture in New York. As entertaining as it is educational.

FRESH

The drama! A story about strategy, survival, and growing up way too fast. Not to mention: an absolutely gutting final frame.

A DIFFERENT WORLD

Easy, breezy collegiate sitcom with the incomparable Lisa Bonet. Watch-worthy for the fashion sense alone.

The Last Dragon (1985)
